How Check-In Works at Newcastle Airport​

Newcastle Airport has a single terminal. All check-in desks are on the ground floor of the main terminal building, directly inside the entrance doors. The walk from the terminal doors to the nearest check-in desk is as little as 10 metres — but depending on which desk your airline uses, it can be up to 147 metres.

• Jet2 — Desks 5–17

• easyJet & Ryanair — Online check-in required; bag drop available at the airport

• TUI, British Airways, Emirates, KLM and others — Check the departure screens on arrival for your desk number

 

Newcastle Airport recommends arriving at least 2 hours before a scheduled flight and 3 hours before a charter flight. There is no benefit to arriving earlier than 3 hours before departure.

Online Check-In — Do It Before You Arrive

Most airlines now allow you to check in, select seats, and download boarding passes before you reach the airport. If you have checked in online and have no hold luggage, you can go straight to security — no desk needed.

If you do have hold luggage, you will still need to visit the bag drop desk even if you have checked in online.

Twilight Bag Drop — Drop Your Bags the Night Before

If you have an early-morning flight, both Jet2 and TUI offer a twilight bag drop service the evening before, saving you time and stress on the day.

• Jet2 — Available from 16:30 to 21:00 the evening before morning flights. You must have checked in online via the Jet2 website or app between 28 days and 24 hours before your flight.

• TUI — Available from 16:00 to 21:00 the evening before, for flights with a TOM or BY flight number departing before midday.

 

This is particularly useful for passengers travelling with heavy luggage or young children.

Oversized and Bulky Luggage

If you are travelling with oversized or unusual items — sports equipment, pushchairs, mobility aids, or unusually large cases — inform your airline in advance. At the airport, you will be directed to the dedicated oversized baggage belt at check-in.

A luggage wrapping service is available next to the Passenger Assistance Desk in the check-in area, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Left luggage storage is also available at the Oversized Baggage desk (before security, near Passenger Assistance). Items are charged at £8 per piece per 24 hours. Open 24 hours.
