Why We Use Joie R129 Child Seats
Families booking a Newcastle Airport transfer can add a child seat for their journey. We chose Joie seats so we can offer a rear-facing or forward-facing seat for younger children and a high-back booster for older children. Select the appropriate seat when you book; your driver will bring it ready for you to fit before travelling.
Why We Chose These Joie Seats
The seat uses a five-point harness and is fitted using the vehicle’s three-point seat belt. Please check your child’s current height when selecting a seat; age ranges are only a guide.
✔ Full R129 / i-Size certification — the highest current standard
✔ Independent ADAC safety testing on our booster seat model
✔ Tri-Protect™ three-layer side-impact protection
✔ Grow Together™ headrest and harness systems — adjust as your child grows
✔ Washable, removable covers — cleaned between every booking
✔ Trusted by families across the UK and Europe
The Joie Steadi R129 — Rear-Facing & Forward-Facing Seat
The Joie Steadi R129 is our seat for babies and younger children, covering birth to approximately 4 years. It is the only seat we use for this age group — in both rear-facing and forward-facing configurations.
REAR-FACING — Birth to approximately 4 years
Height: 40–105 cm | Weight: up to 18 kg
Rear-facing is the safest position for young children in any vehicle. In a frontal collision — the most common type — a rear-facing seat absorbs and distributes the impact across the child's back, head and neck rather than against the harness straps alone. We always recommend keeping children rear-facing for as long as the seat allows.
FORWARD-FACING — 15 months to approximately 4 years
Height: 76–105 cm | Weight: up to 18 kg
From 15 months the Steadi R129 can be used in its forward-facing configuration. The same R129 certification and Tri-Protect™ side-impact protection applies in both positions.
What makes the Steadi R129 stand out:
✔ Meets ECE R129/03 — the highest current standard
✔ Tri-Protect™ headrest with Intelli-Fit™ memory foam — three layers of side-impact protection
✔ Grow Together™ multi-height headrest and harness — adjusts simultaneously, no rethreading needed
✔ 4 recline positions — 1 rear-facing, 3 forward-facing
✔ Padded infant head and body support for smaller babies
✔ Installed with the standard 3-point vehicle seat belt
✔ Removable, washable fabrics
✔ One-pull harness tightening

The Joie i-Trillo FX — High-Back Booster Seat
The Joie i-Trillo FX is our high-back booster seat for older children, covering approximately 3.5 to 12 years.
The i-Trillo FX is designed for children from 100 to 150 cm, approximately four to twelve years. It has an adjustable headrest and uses the vehicle’s three-point seat belt to secure the child. ADAC tested this model in May 2025 and gave it an overall score of 2.3, rated “good”.
Height: 100–150 cm | Approximately 3.5 to 12 years
What makes the i-Trillo FX stand out:

What Is R129 (i-Size) and Why Does It Matter?
R129 — also known as i-Size — is the current European safety standard for child car seats, introduced in 2013 and updated since. It replaced the older R44 standard and goes significantly further in the protection it requires.
R129 vs R44 — the key differences:
✔ Side-impact testing — R129 requires every seat to be tested for side-impact protection. R44 did not.
✔ Height-based sizing — R129 uses your child's height rather than weight. Height is a more accurate guide as children grow at different rates.
✔ Mandatory rear-facing for under 15 months — R129 requires all children under 15 months to travel rear-facing in a compliant seat. R44 did not mandate this.
✔ Improved head and neck protection — R129 seats are designed to provide better protection in the collision types most likely to cause serious injury.
All seats we carry are certified to ECE R129/03 — the most recent update to the standard.
If you already own a seat bought under the older R44 standard, it remains legal to use. If you are hiring or buying a new seat, R129 is the standard it must meet. Every seat we carry exceeds the minimum requirement.
How Child Seats Are Provided on Every Booking
Adding a child seat to your Newcastle Airport taxi or minibus booking takes seconds online. Select the correct age group for your child when you book and the seat is confirmed as part of your journey.
Here is what happens from that point:
✔ Your booking confirmation confirms the seat type selected
✔ The correct Joie seat is allocated to your driver for your journey
✔ The seat arrives clean and ready in the vehicle when your driver arrives
✔ Your driver's details are emailed 24 hours before pickup — including confirmation of the seat in the vehicle
✔ The parent or guardian fits and secures the child in the seat at pickup
For safety and insurance reasons, fitting the seat is the parent's responsibility. This is standard practice for all private hire operators and is in line with UK legal guidance. Allow a few extra minutes at pickup to fit the seat before you travel.
Child seats are £17.49 per journey per seat and can be added to any vehicle in our fleet — saloons, estates and all minibus sizes from 6 to 16 seats. For full fitting guidance:
